Prep Now, Prevent Big Damage This Winter!

prep now prevent big damage this winter

Fall is here, and winter is not far away. We’re already beginning to see several nights in the forecast with lows below freezing. It’s always a good idea to winterize your home before temperatures drop to dangerous levels. Dayspring Restoration knows first-hand the many problems that sub-zero temperatures can cause, leading to potential damage and inconvenience in your home.

To minimize the chances of damage, here are some steps we recommend you take to winterize your Montana home.

Outside:

  • Disconnect hoses from exterior faucets and make sure faucets are turned off.
  • Make sure any exposed piping is insulated properly.
  • Blow out sprinklers of any remaining water in the lines.
  • Make sure gutters and downspouts are clean and draining properly, and make sure water doesn’t pool on the ground. Water should drain away from your home’s foundation.
  • Close crawlspace vents and any other vents that may have been opened for warm weather.
  • Check for and seal any leaks on the exterior of your house where warm air can escape, focusing particularly around windows and doors.
  • Prune trees and shrubs after the leaves turn to encourage healthy growth.
  • Trim tree limbs near your roof. Call upon professionals to deal with any issues near power lines.

Inside:

  • Clean all chimneys and wood-stoves.
  • Replace your furnace filter and test your heating system.
  • Check the walls, attic, and basement for adequate insulation.
  • Make sure attic insulation doesn’t cover ridge and eave vents. This will help prevent winter ice dams on the roof.
  • Ensure there are screens in your attic vents that will prevent birds and rodents from being able to enter your home.
  • Check smoke alarms and CO detectors.
  • Check around electrical outlets and switches for cold air and insulate where necessary.

Should you still experience damage to your home due to water intrusion, mold or other causes, we stand ready to help. Contact Dayspring Restoration, statewide in Montana at 406-248-1834

Reviews From Our Customers

“Following a devastating fire, Dayspring’s ability to pull resources from all over the state within hours was incredible. They had over 50 workers onsite within 2-3 hours! We would never have been able to have our students back in school within 2 days were it not for the quick response and the quality of work provided by them. Their quality of work was excellent!”
